What the Early Church Fathers Can Teach Us About Evangelism Today
My Recent Article Published in the Great Commission Baptist Journal of Missions
As I meditate on the work of Christ this Easter season, I am reminded that my Lord was a passionate evangelist. He proclaimed, “It is finished,” from the cross on Good Friday1. He preached his gospel to the spirits in prison on Holy Saturday2. And he proclaimed victory and peace on Resurrection Sunday3.
Our faith is an evangelical faith, and early Christians understood this truth. What can these 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Century believers teach us about contemporary evangelism? In this peer-reviewed article for the latest addition of the Great Commission Baptist Journal of Missions4, I introduce readers to what many Early Church Fathers had to say about why and how Christians should share the gospel. Read, be emboldened to represent Christ to your neighbor, and do not let anyone or anything take away that Christian zeal for the lost!

Be sure to check out many of the other articles and essays in this edition of the journal, “Indigenization.” Many folks with much more wisdom, experience, and credentials than I have contributed to a great conversation on how we must allow the gospel to take root in a people and place without imposing extraneous cultural expectations.
